Have you been hearing the buzz about passive income? This topic has been on my mind for awhile since there is only so many hours in a day I can see clients. I started listening to Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income over 2 years ago and was hooked. If you have not listened to him start now!! So many great ideas, books, etc that can totally apply to practitioners.
With all these great ideas and possibilities how can a practitioner add some to their practice? Why should we have other revenue streams in our practice? These are the questions I hope to answer or at least begin the conversation for in this weeks blog.
Knowing Your Audience When You Create
Before even going down the road of creating something for your audience make sure what you are creating is what they need. Can’t tell you how big of a mistake this was for me! I thought it would be awesome to have an educational program about something and why would everyone not want the same thing?! I spent too much time and money building something that didn’t sell. It was a huge flop. Pretty heartbreaking after putting so much into this idea.
To fix that problem, ask them! Seems too simple and too easy. Guess I had to learn the hard way. Reaching out to your current clients and asking them if the idea in your head is something they might be interested in. Even if you don’t have a huge client base just yet, you can begin by reaching out to friend and family and seeing if this idea you have would be something they would be interested in.
Once you get the green light from all the people that your idea is what they want and need- then you will need to think about how to create this idea into a tangible thing that will be of service to them.
How to be of Service
As you build this magical thing, let’s call it a membership site, keep in mind how this will serve your clients. Why I say this, is because it keeps the design, delivery, everything centered around your client’s needs. What I did wrong was build something that was what I want and how I like to see things- not at all what my client would have chosen.
The second reason to keep in mind of how this membership site you built will be of service is how you can start to write the marketing material. When you come from a place of service and helping the wording in your marketing is more authentic. We will talk about serving vs selling in a blog post soon!
