The secret weapon behind taking action in your practice daily
How long is your to-do list today? Or do you have multiple to-do lists as I do? I have things I need to get done today; then there is office stuff that is ongoing, then the life stuff that I should get to, then that shopping list, and don’t forget about that bucket/dream list. It can be seriously overwhelming.
The crappy part is that everything felt urgent yet nothing got done. I had that feeling and knew I needed to change that. In today’s lesson, I want to share with you my secret weapon behind getting everything done on each list!
An Accountability Group
My secret weapon for getting everything done… is my accountability group!
This group of 4 other powerhouses of women is awesome! I am the new kid in the group and have been waiting to join for a while. The only way they add a new member is if someone gets kicked out. Each week we have a call to review what we said we would accomplish, the status on that, and what we plan to accomplish this week. For each of us to go through all of that, it might take 15 minutes max.
Since joining my accountability group, I have gotten more done in all areas of my to-do lists and really moved the needle forward on my life and business. It has not felt like a hassle or been extra; the accountability group has been that little push I had been searching for that keeps the fire lit under my butt each week to get shit done!
Why it Works
There is a million different types of accountability groups out there, and no “right” way to run one. Why I believe this one works for me is a mix of two things.
First, this group is time efficient and has very black and white rules. There is no question about what happens if someone doesn’t accomplish their goal or is one minute late. I like these rule because it creates a sense of respect for everyone’s time, since we all run our own business.
The second reason I feel this group works is because you choose your task to accomplish for the week. If you have more time, you might set a lofty task, or if you are heading on vacation, it might be to unplug. If you have been meaning to take a yoga class but just can’t make it work in your life right now, you might add that to your task list for the week to hold yourself accountable to actually going to yoga.
I could probably gush about my accountability group for hours because it has been so valuable to my life. Instead of gushing, I thought I would share the experience with y’all, so you understand the benefits of being part of one of these groups.
To help my Fearless Practitioners like you, I am going to be starting an accountability group for all those who are interested. This first group will be a test run, or called beta, so I can work out all the kinks. What that means to those in it – they get to test drive out an accountability group at a super, discounted price and help me with feedback.
What it will look like is almost exactly like my magical accountability group. We will meet Wednesday mornings over a conference call, at 9:00 am CST, for 15 minutes max. We will have very black and white rules and hold each other to those rules as we set tasks and see the magic happen!
