Where do you get your energy? Are you one of those people who feels energized by doing all the things and chatting with a million and ten people daily? Or do you find your energy by closing the door and taking the time for yourself? As you begin this journey of your practice getting to know more about you is really powerful in how you work, feel energized and even how you market.
In our office, we all have amazing strengths from being detailed oriented (not me) to be able to chat with a room full of people. This has taken me time to learn everyone strengthens and also to empower each of us to use our strengths daily. Along this journey of starting and growing your practice, I want you to continue to learn about yourself. First, are you an introvert or extrovert? There is no good, bad, right, wrong personality type. It is just you, so own it!
Marketing for Introverts vs Extroverts
You might be asking yourself, “How does know yourself help in marketing?” Holy bananas! It can make the experience painful or super fun if you know how to leverage your personality style and strengthens. Here are a few ideas for each of the basic personality types. Introverts and extroverts are often viewed in terms of two extreme opposites, but the truth is that most people lie somewhere in the middle.
Just so y’all know, I love all these types of personality testing and strength finders. This is a blog post for another day.
Introvert Marketing Tips
Introversion is a personality trait characterized by a focus on internal feelings rather than on external sources of stimulation. Keep in mind during this entire process where you do feel energized? If you lean towards more of an introvert personality type you may feel drained of energy when around large groups of people. It doesn’t mean you do not like people or group events, just it takes a toll on your energy. In the marketing world, you want to find ways to not drain your energy so you can have your message heard and received well.
Here are a few ideas of ways to market for an introvert personality that might not be draining:
- Blogging consistently– It is one thing to blog, it is a whole other thing to blog consistently. The true power in blogging is making sure you have a consistent message. The message also needs to align with your brand and truly speak to your ideal client.Don’t blog just because it is what you are supposed to do. If you don’t like to blog- don’t do it. Have your voice and opinions expressed in a manner that is clear, powerful and consistent and just see how your ideal client will find you!
- Social media – It can be a HUGE time suck I know! And it can also be an even bigger client generate when used well and effectively. Between all the different platforms out there pick one that is you and your ideal client loves too. Learn everything about that platform. Then show up consistently on that platform and provide value. I have an 80/20 rule for social media. 80% of the time the post need to provide value to my clients and 20% of the time the post is more about me sharing me or my dog Maybelline!
- Warm emails – this is an art that I am just in awe of! Have you ever gotten an email from someone and just felt like they were being so genuine and honest in it? Makes you feel great reading it! If this is your talent- rock it! Send a personal warm email to each of your colleagues every so often letting them know how much you appreciate their support and referrals to your practice.
- Hand written letters- just like warm email we all love getting a hand written note in the mail. I don’t care if you are an extrovert or introvert this is a marketing tactic that can be used all the time to express gratitude and make a deeper connection with other professionals.
Extroverts
Keeping with the core idea of what brings you energy? When you are socializing with others and chatting it up with strangers is your energy jet pack filled up? Let’s use this chatty energy for your practice growth by trying a few of these out:
- Networking– We have all heard that networking is important and I want to make sure you are using your extrovert personality by challenging yourself too. When you are at networking events type to chat with people you may not know yet in that group. Go into the networking event with a mindset of how you can be of service to others and not what can others do for you. Have you tried networking events outside your profession? If not, look around in your area and I promise this will be crazy amounts of fun!
- Giving lectures – If you are feeling you have a message or expertise in your areas then please share it. By giving lectures to other groups on a consistent basis you will build up your credibility. Don’t over think this too much! These lectures are for local groups that may not be able to compensate you for your time and remember you would be at this event anyways networking now you are there as the expert educating! Win Win Event!
- Go Live! – With each social media platform having live capabilities now use this to your advantage. Use the live streams as you would a blog. Share your message and your opinions on the live stream to build up credibility! This a great way for ideal clients and other professionals to get to interact and know you on an intimate level quickly.
How to get a steady stream of clients into your practice
Pick ONE, and be consistent! If you can’t tell that is the true theme of this blog post! Focus on that one thing and do it weekly if not daily. Yes, I know, we are superheroes and can do it all, yet by the time we have done it all we are exhausted.
Choose one online strategy and one offline strategy and that is it. Keep it consistent. That is the BIGGEST and sometimes the hardest part. We all want that instant gratification and if we don’t see 1K likes we get discouraged and stop. Be persistent and show up each week, day and you will get the traction and clients.
Do one thing and do it really well!
