It’s hard to get to know the “real” person behind what you see on the Internet today. Your clients crave real!
If you are wanting to attract those ideal clients, get ready to be real! I don’t mean by sharing your dirty laundry. I am talking about sharing the REAL YOU! What do you stand for? What are you passionate about? What lights you up?! This can be scary and super uncomfortable. Believe I am not a pro at this yet, however, I felt I could share some things I am learning along the way, that we both can benefit from.
In this article, I am going to talk about finding your voice to help build up your audience with those ideal clients!
How do I build up my private practice to attract more clients, followers, or potential customers?
I get this question all the time from my coaching students!
Here’s a hint: They want to know YOU!
Our clients are wanting real people helping them, not this perfect, got it all together, unattainable image of a life. OK, maybe they like those images but it can be too hard to actually believe those are real. Your clients want to get to know you and be able to build a trust with you so they can hire you for your service!
YOU!
Take off your perfectionistic hat and let’s get to know you! What lights you right now? Or, better yet, what are you into right now? You don’t have to be the world expert on anything just yet to start sharing your opinion. That’s just it – by sharing your thoughts and opinions, your clients start to get to know you!
Not sure where to start? Try answering these few questions:
- What are you most excited about today?
- What questions do you get asked all the time?
- What are the biggest problems your clients are facing right now?
- What advice do friends or other colleagues ask you?
- What books, articles, or blogs are you consuming right now?
For example, one of my business coaching students is a dietitian who is all about yoga. She posts and talks about her practice in yoga and also foods that fuel her practice. She has been building up a community of followers who love yoga and those seeking nutrition advice – her ideal clients she wants to serve.
Drop the Professional Jargon
When you are sharing something, make sure you are talking to that one person – your ideal client. I know, as professionals, we can jump right into professional jargon so fast because it makes sense to our brains. Yet, when our client reads it, they might get lost, feel intimidated or completely turned off. To check if you are going to lose your client in the words is to read it out loud – or, better yet, think how you would explain this to a loved one.
Real life story…I was in a consult for a potential client and used the word gluconeogenesis and then proceeded to talk about how the different pathways were being destroyed by how they were eating. That potential client was crossed-eyed sitting across from me, while I was all proud giving myself a high five thinking how amazing I was for showing off how biochemically smart I was. HA! Joke on me! I talked above that client and never connected to them. Needless to say, they didn’t sign up.
I think back on this all the time. Now when I am trying to explain something complicated, I test it out on my dad, GL. If he can follow along, I know I am getting my point across.
Tell a Story
In the above example, can you see me sitting in an office, looking all proud of myself and not even noticing my confused potential client? The story behind a point drives that point home with a lot more meaning than just the facts. Not every fact will have a story and not every story will have a profound meaning to each client. When you add in a story, see how it can change up your content to provide more connection.
Bottom line – Be YOU! Own all your flaws and all your sparks and don’t worry too much about sharing them along the way. Your clients that you want to serve want to get to know you. They are waiting to get to know the real you, so start by sharing a bit about you today. Once you have done this. let me know how it went… connect on the Fearless Practitioners Facebook Page and let me know how it went – AND share a little about you too!
And remember — Be Amazingly YOU!
